As I watched my brother slaughter his way through CoD on a fine afternoon, I realised how far removed I've become from my joypad days. It's the keyboard for me now.
After all, the keyboard makes no distinction between Player 1 and 2.
Back in the days of yore, almost everyone I played HAD to go Player 1, or go into a fit (actually that one kid across the road really was epileptic). There is almost no rational reason for this. In most games, your abilities were the same regardless of player 1 or 2. Happy evenings playing Metal Slug with other children were marred by this.

The only possible explanation? Pride. Being player 1 sounds better in the demented mind of an adolescent.
