Doctor Who and the Terror of the Rehash (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Actually the title is "The Curse of the Black spot" but it certainly felt like an idea used too often. The opener to this season was great and hopefully this is just a little hiccup. 

While Doctor Who has always cleverly presented stories where mythological creatures turn out to be aliens/alien technology, "The Curse of the Black spot" felt too much like "The Empty Child" where  the twist in the story that would make us go "oh, I see" seemed too familiar

The setting is a bit cliched. Pirates? Really? I love pirates but it felt too much like the protagonists had landed on the set of a movie. 

Yo ho ho and a...oh whatever.

The episode ends with a bunch of 18th century pirates cruising around in a starship from the future. As cool as that may sound, does anyone else see a problem with that?

On the bright side, the next episode is written by Neil Gaiman.
