Mass Effect: a research facility in lockdown mode and a red hologram. Why does this sound familiar?

Next stop, the ice planet Noveria. Apparently there are reports of Geth operating on the planet, so it's worth checking out (and a way to advance the plot). Right away Shepard and crew receive a warm welcome, and by warm I mean not at all. Captain Maeko Matsuo, head of secuity, and her people are not happy with outside interference and are very trigger happy. Only some timely intervention stops them killing Shepard - no scrap that, stops Shepard killing them. For now.

Hmm, some shady cover up by corporate higher ups, and an isolated research station. This is not a good recipe. Worse of all, that Matsuo tries to take the opportunity to bump Shepard off. Remember how much of a jerk she was being? Well the carpet just became stained with a lovely shade of Matsuo. Sure enough, my bad vibes are confirmed and we find the place crawling with giant bugs. There's a team of soldiers/marines desperately defending the place. Tartakovsky, one of the lead scientists, gets impaled mid sentence. 

We get a red hologram too. That's never a good thing. None of these things, so far, make for a happy time.

I'd continue and talk about the showdown with Matriarch Benezia. Let's just say Shepard kicks ass and the matriarch dies, though the latter wasn't necessarily my fault. Honest.
