At the end of X-Men: the last stand, Magneto is rendered powerless by one of the most dangerous methods of needle use. With his power of magnetism lost, he sits in a park somewhere, moping about in front of a chessboard.

One of the greatest threats to mankind is free to go. Shouldn't he be in prison? Sure, he may be powerless but it doesn't absolve him of his crimes. No one thought to keep him in that big plastic prison thing. Just in case his powers do return. Let's not worry too much though, that'll never happen...
