City Centre comics

Thing about comic book stores is, you don't get many of them in Scotland and they tend to be tucked away on obscure streets, roads and lanes. There's Forbidden Planet located in the sweet spot that is Glasgow's shopping district, but the place I want to talk about is City Centre comics. Ironically, it's not even in the city centre but getting there is easy enough.

It's that kind of comic store. Small and compact but spacious enough to display the merchandise. Believe it or not, but I've come across at least one place where the dust sits thick, the comics are clumsily crammed into their stands and years of sun exposure have turned good books into a discoloured mess. City Centre comics is the exact opposite. Everything is neatly stored and easy to find.

The owner is also quite friendly and knowledgeable about his trade. It's clear he modelled his business' facade to create that classic comic book store appearance, which sets it apart from a lot of other places in Glasgow.

What I find intriguing is the generous number of back issues, a lot of it stretching back decades. If you're chasing those old Silver age issues then this is the place to go. I didn't expect to buy anything, but came away with a few fine additions to my Ninja Turtles collection.

Worth checking out.
