I got me some new comics (or should that be old comics?)

You won't find these in the shops. Mainly because they're out of print and quite rare. Behold, #4, 5 and 6 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1985.

These cost me a pretty penny. I really should be spending less money if I'm planning on leaving my job at the demented pharmacy chain, but I've saved a lot so I guess I can splash a little. Let's think of it as a gift to myself. In any case, these are some fine additions to my collection.

If you want a hassle free way to read these stories, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Collection Volume 1 might be a good option. It collects the original stories in a hardback volume and will cost less than collecting individual issues (shipping from the U.S ain't cheap).

I won't go into the trade paperback v single issue debate, but if you want the rarity and collector's value of the originals (and have time and money for it) then collecting single issues can be a lot of fun in itself.

A bit of history for those unfamiliar with the Ninja Turtles. The franchise began in 1984 as an independent comic book written and drawn by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, hence the "Eastman and Laird's" on the front cover. The artwork was black and white and showcases the original vision of the Ninja Turtles: gritty and violent, with some deep writing.
