Cave troll's puny brain can't understand time

A few weeks ago I was scheduled for two different pharmacies: a small place in the west end and a big retail location.

After finishing my morning shift in the small west end pharmacy I brought out the chicken and rice and took my full lunch break. You know, because I'm entitled to a lunch.

A 40 minute drive later (blame the cross winds) and a fat woman was bellowing at me from 7 feet away, demanding to know why I took so long. I think she was the manager but I could be wrong. Actually, I've got it all wrong. Remember who I work for? That cave troll probably was the manager.

Apparently she had no understanding of the concept known as time. Or math. I can't fit my half hour lunch and 40 minute car journey into one freaking hour.

The pharmacist there was more reasonable. No wait, she wasn't. She tried to make me feel guilty, once again making me aware that I was 30 minutes late and she hadn't had a lunch break yet.

Well guess what? You're entitled to a lunch break too, honey.

You can close the pharmacy for a while and go. It doesn't matter if there isn't a second pharmacist available to cover you. If you're too chicken to stand up for this basic right then that's too bad. There's nothing heroic about "taking one for the team" and "doing it for the good of the business" if you collapse because you weren't adequately rested and fed.
